SLAM POETRY IN SCHOOLS! 2018 will see ten south-east Queensland schools slam off in our inter-school event, with the new SlammEd! pilot program set for regional Queensland.

SlammED! is an ongoing partnership program between QPF and State Library of Queensland, now in its forth year.

Building on the pioneering education program originally created by poets David Stavanger & Pascalle Burton, SlammED! 2018 will again see local poet and teacher Simon Kindt working closely with schools in South East and regional Queensland, bringing high-profile spoken word poets to work with students.

Students take part in a poetry workshop and performance at their school, with 20 top performing students  invited to participate in a culminating SlammEd! Masterclass with a high-profile international spoken word artist

During the Masterclass, students work to develop their written pieces and performance skills in preparation for the SlammEd! state final, to be held at the 2018 Queensland Poetry Festival.

The SlammEd! final will be held in the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts theatre and also feature an international guest artist. The top students from the Final will  be invited to perform in the Queensland Poetry Slam Final, on Sunday 26th August.

The overall winner of this year’s SlammED! will receive:

  • A mentorship with an established Queensland poet/writer/spoken word artist
  • A QPF poetry book pack
  • A 10 min feature set at the 2019 Queensland Poetry Festival
  • A professional audio and video recording of 1 x poem

For the 2018 regional pilot program, students will take part in a workshop and performance at their school, culminating in a regional final event, to be designed in consultation with local schools and libraries.
