Active Voice: a live performance workshop for writers, poets and storytellers
with writer and storyteller Ivan Coyote
Ivan Coyote is the author of 13 books, the creator of four short films, three albums that combine storytelling and music, and an internationally touring performer who has appeared on stages on five continents. Join Ivan in this workshop where they will share tricks and tips collected over nearly three decades of experience, to help you craft a live performance that will rattle the hearts of your listeners. With tips on selecting material, preparing your piece and yourself for performance, memorization (or not), and how to make your body language work for you. Ivan will also share some stage secrets about microphones, sound guys and selling your books. To get the most out of this workshop participants should bring a 3-minute selection of their work to be staged.
What you’ll need to participate
Internet connection, a 3-minute piece to perform, a device with audio and video capability, and a Zoom account.
This two-hour session, delivered via Zoom, is limited to 20 participants. Tickets cost $30 full/$25 concession and can be booked below.

Ivan Coyote is a writer and storyteller, the author of twelve books, the creator of four films, three albums, and an international touring performer. Coyote’s new book, Rebent Sinner, was released in 2019 by Arsenal Pulp Press. In 2017 Ivan was given an honorary PHD from Simon Fraser University for their writing and activism.
