To honour National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June), we’re pleased to open applications to the 2018 the Oodgeroo Noonuccal Indigenous Poetry Prize for an Unpublished Poem.
Born on Quandamooka (Stradbroke Island) in 1920, Oodgeroo Noonuccal (known until 1988 as Kath Walker) was the first Aboriginal Australian to publish a book of verse, as well as being an activist, advocate and cultural custodian. The prize is being presented by QPF after receiving permission from Oodgeroo’s family and in close consultation with Quandamooka Festival in Moreton Bay, Queensland.
The prize, also made possible with the support of the Australia Council for the Arts , is for a single poem (or suite of poems) of 80 lines or less, and comes with a first prize of $2,000. Applications close 20 July.
